The Process

In order to begin your career in real estate you will be required by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations (DBPR) to meet certain requirements. Once these requirements have been met you will be able to list, auction, sell, buy, manage, lease or exchange all types of real estate such as residential, commercial, and industrial properties for others. This list would also include raw land and business opportunities.

WHERE TO START?

To be eligible to be licensed you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have a Social Security number
  • You do not need to be a Florida resident

To become a licensed real estate sales associate in the state of Florida you must complete the following 4 steps listed below this section.

HOW TO BECOME A REAL ESTATE AGENT

STEP 1

Register and pass the state required 63 Hour Pre-License Sales Associate course offered at Indian River School of Real Estate (IRSRE) either in the  classroom (recommended) or online (convenient).

STEP 2

To schedule an appointment for your fingerprints in Fort Pierce call  Live Scan (772) 242-0020When you arrive at the fingerprinting vendor for your appointment you will need a picture ID such as your drivers license and the following ORI number: FL920010Z. The ORI number identifies the correct profession and the agency that is responsible for processing your request. The above ORI number is the same for every Sales Associate and Broker applicant. STEP 3

Submit the DBPR initial application Sales Associate license Form RE 1 by visiting MyFloridaLicenseApplication or call (850) 487-1395 to speak to the customer care center. Please note: Although you can complete steps 1,2 & 3 in any order, the DBPR recommends that you submit your fingerprints at least 5 days prior to submitting your RE 1 application for licensure to avoid any delay.

STEP 4

Once you have submitted your fingerprints, filled out the DBPR Form RE 1 application and completed the 63 hour Pre-License course you will be issued a Certificate of Completion from Indian River School of Real Estate. To schedule your exam, contact Pearson VUE, the state testing vendor, they have locations throughout the state. You can make an appointment online at Schedule State Exam, or by calling (888) 204-6289. As of August 2020 you now have the option of taking the state exam online. Online proctored exams allow you to take the exam in the comfort of your home or office while being monitored by an offsite proctor through your webcam. AFTER PASSING THE STATE EXAM

Once you have passed your state exam you will be eligible to perform the services of real estate under the direction, control, and management of a Broker or Owner/Developer. You cannot engage in real estate services on your own until you are a licensed Broker.
