The Process

In order to begin your career in real estate you will be required by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations (DBPR) to meet certain requirements. Once these requirements have been met you will be able to list, auction, sell, buy, manage, lease or exchange all types of real estate such as residential, commercial, and industrial properties for others. This list would also include raw land and business opportunities.

To be eligible to be licensed you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have a Social Security number
  • You do not need to be a Florida resident

To become a licensed real estate sales associate in the state of Florida you must complete the following 4 steps listed below this section.

Register and pass the state required 63 Hour Pre-License Sales Associate course offered at Indian River School of Real Estate (IRSRE) either in the  classroom (recommended) or online (convenient).

We now offer fingerprinting in the classroom during all courses. Please click this link  Fingerprinting With Care  to pre-register for your fingerprinting by filling out the intake form.  You will need a picture ID such as your drivers license and the following ORI number: FL920010Z. The ORI number identifies the correct profession and the agency that is responsible for processing your request. The above ORI number is the same for every Sales Associate and Broker applicant. Click here for an additional list of Florida state approved fingerprinting venders.

Submit the DBPR initial application Sales Associate license Form RE 1 by visiting MyFloridaLicenseApplication or call (850) 487-1395 to speak to the customer care center. Please note: Although you can complete steps 1,2 & 3 in any order, the DBPR recommends that you submit your fingerprints at least 5 days prior to submitting your RE 1 application for licensure to avoid any delay.

Once you have submitted your fingerprints, filled out the DBPR Form RE 1 application and completed the 63 hour Pre-License course you will be issued a Certificate of Completion from Indian River School of Real Estate. To schedule your exam, contact Pearson VUE, the state testing vendor, they have locations throughout the state. You can make an appointment online at Schedule State Exam, or by calling (888) 204-6289. As of August 2020 you now have the option of taking the state exam online. Online proctored exams allow you to take the exam in the comfort of your home or office while being monitored by an offsite proctor through your webcam.
